Notorious Leader Of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau Is Critically Ill

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the terror group Boko Haram, is said to be weakened by ill health, prompting questions about his ability to lead the militants, the AFP reported on Friday.

The sources said Shekau has a range of conditions that have left him “too weak to be in charge” of the jihadists, whose insurgency has killed at least 20,000 in Nigeria since 2009.

“He has high blood pressure and failing sight from diabetes-related complications,” said one source with close knowledge of the group’s activities.

A senior security source tracking the conflict, who also asked not to be identified because he was not authorised to speak to the media, described Shekau’s diabetes as “debilitating”.

“He suffers from diminished eyesight from cataracts or glaucoma as a result of diabetes,” he added.

The source with knowledge of Boko Haram’s activities said Shekau and his lieutenants have been in talks this week about his “failing health” and whether he was well enough to lead.

Boko Haram split in mid-2016 over ideological differences.

One faction, headed by Abu-Mus’ab Al-Barnawi, whose father Mohammed Yusuf founded Boko Haram, won the support of the Islamic State group.

Some experts suggested that with Shekau off the scene, the different groups could be reconciled.

Shekau used to appear frequently on video messages from the group, particularly at the height of the conflict, when Boko Haram ran riot across northeast Nigeria, seizing territory.

The Nigerian authorities have claimed Shekau has died or been killed on at least three occasions, and that he has been replaced by a series of lookalikes.

Shekau’s last appearance on camera was in a 14-minute video released on February 6 in which he claimed responsibility for attacks in Borno state capital, Maiduguri, and other towns.

He was previously seen on January 15 in an 11-minute video in which some of the remaining Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted in 2014 vowed never to return to their parents.

Both sources said between February and April last year, Shekau was bed-ridden in Bulayaga, a village in the Konduga area of Borno, near his group’s Sambisa Forest stronghold.

Bulayaga is some 35 kilometres (22 miles) from Maiduguri.

“No-one thought he would survive because he was terribly sick from diabetes and malaria,” said the security source.

Shekau resurfaced in a video published on May 4, 2017, rejecting claims he had been injured in a Nigerian air strike the previous day at the nearby village of Balla.

“I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive,” he said.

But in it, he looked frail and appeared to have difficulty reading from a prepared speech, which he held close to his face in an apparent indication of vision problems.

The August 2016 split caused bitter in-fighting and saw Shekau lose men, territory and weapons.

Barnawi, whose group operates in northern Borno around the shores of Lake Chad, is now seen as “more in charge”, said the source.

Yan St-Pierre, counter-terrorism advisor and head of the Modern Security Consulting Group, said Shekau’s removal would only have a “limited” effect internally and on operations.

“Most terrorist organisations always have a ‘next man up’ planned because leadership could be lost at any time,” he said in emailed comments.

“The myth of Shekau” could also remain as a “galvanising factor” for Boko Haram fighters, he added.

The security source suggested the removal of Shekau “could signal the mending of fences between the two factions”.

“Shekau has been the major wedge to reconciliation between the factions and if he resigns, the prospect of a truce and merger between the factions is high,” he added.

Ryan Cummings, Africa security analyst at the Signal Risk group, agreed the two sides could move closer but also suggested it could trigger a power struggle in the high command.

That “could trigger further violent factionalism'' he added.

"More Humans Should Be Murdered" - Man Defends The Killings By Fulani Herdsmen

As Nigerians mourn the death of scores of innocent people in Northern Nigeria, a man from the northern part of Nigeria has made a very insensitive comment equating the lives of humans with that of cows.
Abdurrahman Lawal said enough humans haven't been killed by Fulani herdsmen yet and suggested that more should be killed to equate the number of cows lost by Fulani herdsmen.

REALLY??? Bizarre Couple Made Their 11-Year-Old Have Sex With Them "To Stop Him From Being Gay"

A couple forced their 11-year-old son to join them while they were having sex to try and stop him from being gay.

The parents, who have not been named to protect their son's identity, made him watch them in bed and take part in various acts. His father told police it was because he wanted to keep his son "on the straight and narrow".

The boy initially told the police that he was being sexually assaulted in 1998 but his father denied it and lied to detectives and the boy was not believed. Years later the victim, now an adult aged in his 30s, complained again to the police and this time the father and the boy’s step-mother were both arrested.

The perverted father and the boy’s stepmother were jailed today for six years and nine years respectively. The father and step-mother sat in the dock at Reading Crown Court as prosecutor Ruby Silva described to the court how they had begun their sexual assaults when the boy was 11.

Ms Silva told the court that the couple had an irrational fear of their son being gay. So, over the course of years during the mid-1990s, the couple now in their sixties, would force the child to watch them have sex as well as perform sexual acts on the child involving oral sex, touching the child’s genitals and forcing him to "suck on the step-mother’s nipples," in an attempt to educate him about heterosexual relationships.

After the hearing, the victim said: "It’s been a long process, and I tried before. I tried when I was 16 and, obviously, I was made out to be a liar. A lot of people will ask ‘why now?’ But it took me that long to convince myself that I had the courage to go through it all again. If my story can reach just one other person, I will be perfectly happy with that."

Kanye West Thought Kim Kardashian Might Divorce Him Over Slavery Comments

As recently as a month and a half ago, Kanye Westhad serious doubts about the future of his marriage to Kim Kardashian
In a new interview with The New York Times, the rapper revealed that he had a "real conversation" about the possibility of a divorce over controversial remarks he made during an unfiltered appearance on TMZ Live. In May, West sparked widespread backlash when he said slavery was a choice, a statement he also told the NYT was taken out of context.
As Kanye recalled, "There was a moment where I felt like after TMZ, maybe a week after that, I felt like the energy levels were low, and I called different family members and was asking, you know, ‘Was Kim thinking about leaving me after TMZ?' So that was a real conversation."
Kim and Kanye's marital trouble never played out publicly, as the E! reality star defended her husband on social media and stood by his side throughout the release of his latest studio album, Ye
"Kim and Kanye have a solid relationship, even with what's going on right now," a source shared with E! News at the time. "She loves and supports her husband. Even if they have differences in views and opinions, she knows his heart."
In regards to the public's response to his apparent position on slavery, the hip-hop star had this to say: "I said the idea of sitting in something for 400 years sounds—sounds—like a choice to me, I never said it's a choice. I never said slavery itself—like being shackled in chains—was a choice. That's why I went from slave to 400 years to mental prison to this and that. If you look at the clip you see the way my mind works."
On "Wouldn't Leave," West alludes to Kardashian's immediate reaction to the TMZ interview. Additionally, he raps about contemplating suicide, which he told the The New York Times was not just an artistic metaphor.
"Oh yeah," he confessed, "I've thought about killing myself all the time. It's always [an] option and [expletive]. Like Louis C.K.. said: I flip through the manual. I weigh all the options."
"I'm just having this epiphany now, 'cause I didn't do it, but I did think it all the way through. But if I didn't think it all the way through, then it's actually maybe more of a chance of it happening," West said

Cardi B Confirms She Secretly Married Offset

It's official! Cardi Bis indeed a married woman.
On the heels of reports that she had secretly wed her longtime beau and father of her future child last year, the rapper addressed the claims on Twitter and simultaneously confirmed that the story was true.
"There are so many moments that I share with the world and there are moments that I want to keep for myself! Getting married was one of those moments!" she tweeted Monday afternoon. "Our relationship was so new breaking up and making up and we had a lot of growing to do but we was so in love we didn't want to lose each other."
Cardi B, Offset
As the star recalled, the two woke up and decided to get married in September 2017 with a frills-free ceremony. "We found someone to marry us, and she did, just the two of us and my cousin. I said I do, with no dress, no makeup and no ring!" she described.
As fans may recall, the two got very publicly engaged a month later when Offset got down on one knee during Power 99's Powerhouse in Philadelphia with a whopping 8-carat, pear-shaped diamond in a halo setting.
"I appreciate and love my husband so much for still wanting for me have that special moment that every girl dreams of when he got down on his knee and put a ring on my finger and he did that for me!!" she said, referencing the October proposal.
"Well now since you lil nosey f--ks know at least ya can stop saying I had a baby out of wedlock," she signed off. However, the Grammy nominee made it clear she was not too happy about the news breaking.
"This why i name my album 'Invasion of privacy' cause people will do the most to be nosey about your life," she tweeted. "Welp f--k it."
With a wedding already out of the way, the two now have the arrival of their first child together to look forward to.
A belated congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.!

Congratulations! Nigeria Now Declared The Poorest Capital In The World, After Beating India

On a rather negative note, Nigeria has taken over as the nation with the highest number of extremely poor people, according to a report by Brookings Institution.

India, with a population of 1.324 billion people, had held the unenviable position until this latest report confirming Nigeria, with a population of under 200 million as the new poverty capital.

The report claims the number of Nigerians in extreme poverty increases by six people every minute, TheCable writes.

“According to our projections, Nigeria has already overtaken India as the country with the largest number of extreme poor in early 2018, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo could soon take over the number 2 spot.

“At the end of May 2018, our trajectories suggest that Nigeria had about 87 million people in extreme poverty, compared with India’s 73 million. What is more, extreme poverty in Nigeria is growing by six people every minute, while poverty in India continues to fall.

“In fact, by the end of 2018 in Africa as a whole, there will probably be about 3.2 million more people living in extreme poverty than there is today.

“Africans account for about two-thirds of the world’s extreme poor and that if current trends persist, Africa will account for nine-tenths by 2030.

“Fourteen out of 18 countries in the world—where the number of extreme poor is rising—are in Africa.”

This comes after a report in March by the International Monetary Fund which claims Nigerians were getting poorer, calling for coherent and comprehensive economic reforms.

Just a personal decision perhaps?

Donald Trump WILL meet the Queen - and it's a HUGE slap down for Theresa May

Donald Trump will meet the Queen when he visits the UK in July - and it represents a humiliating slapdown for Theresa May.
Trump is due in Britain for a working visit in mid-July, after months of speculation over when the U.S. president would visit what traditionally has been the United States' closest ally'. But comments made by his ambassador in London suggest he's more interested in meeting the Queen than the Prime Minister.
Asked if Trump would meet the Queen, U.S. Ambassador Woody Johnson told Sky News: "Yes. He has to see the British head of state," adding that other details of the trip had not been finalised.
He added: "Meeting her majesty is the most important thing, because she is head of state."
His comments came just hours after Mrs May strongly condemned Donald Trump’s ‘zero tolerance’ immigration policy, which has seen hundreds of children separated from their parents and held in ‘cages. he Prime Minister said the policy was ‘deeply disturbing’ and ‘wrong’.
“The pictures of children being held in what appear to be cages are deeply disturbing. This is wrong.
“This is not something that we agree with. This is not the United Kingdom’s approach.”
But she said the US President would still be welcomed to the UK for a working visit in July.
Mrs May made the comments at Prime Minister’s Questions.
It was in response to a question from SNP Westminster leader Ian Blacford, who said: “Many of us in this house will be aware of the distressing audio and images of children separated from their parents in US detention centers.
“Infants as young as 18 months are being caged like animals. Babies of 8 months are being left isolated in rooms.
“And last night the former head of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said he expects hundreds of these children never to be reunited with their parents.
MPs cried “shame” as he went on.
“Lost in the system,” he said. “Orphaned by the US government.
“Is the Prime Minister still intending to roll out the red carpet for Donald Trump?”
Mrs May replied said: “There will be a range of issues that I will be discussing with President Trump, a range of issues about our shared interests.
"And I think it’s important that we welcome…that we make sure that when we see the President of the United States here in the United Kingdom, we are able to have those discussions.
"That means that when we disagree with what they’re doing we say so.”Asked to “unequivocally condemn” the actions of the Trump White House, Mrs May said: “I clearly and wholly unequivocallly said that that was wrong.”
Labour MP Gavin Shuker went further, raising the topic in another question.
He said: “If I can summarise what we’ve just heard, President Trump has locked up 2,000 little children in cages and is refusing to release them unless he is allowed to build a wall.
“He’s quit the UN Human Rights Council, praised Kim Jong Un’s treatment of his own people, turned away Muslims.
“What does this man have to do to have the invitation that she has extended revoked?”
The Prime Minister replied: “On the wider issue of the President of the United States coming here to the United Kingdom, there are many issues on which members of this house, including his right honorable friend the leader of the Opposition ( Jeremy Corbyn) consistently encourage me to raise with the President of the United States “We do that. When we disagree with the United States, we tell them so. “But we also have some key shared interests with the United States in the security and defense field, and in other areas as well and it is right that we are able to sit down and discuss those with the President of a country with which we have and will continue to have a longstanding special relationship.”

Will ex Vice President be arrested if he visits the United States?

This week, news emerged that former Nigeria Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has been invited to the United States to speak at an event.

The event, a trade and investment gathering in Washington D.C. has been scheduled for June 24-26, 2018.
Atiku’s name fell under ‘confirmed plenary speakers’ alongside Nigeria’s minister for Trade and Industry Okechukwu Enelamah; Chairman of the Board of Directors, Banco Sol Angola, Mr Coutinho Nobre Miguel; Deputy Director General of Trade and Investment in South Africa Ms Lerato Mataboge; Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu; former US Ambassador to Nigeria John Campbell; former Finance Minister Kalu Idika Kalu; Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and a host of other major players in the private and public sectors across Africa. There is no such invitation to the former vice president. We are not aware of such invitation and we do not know how they managed to put his name on their list,” Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, told Premium Times.

Atiku's name came up in a corruption trial in the US. There are those who say Atiku will be arrested if he sets foot on US soil and that honoring this latest invitation will be akin to committing suicide for the former vice president.

Atiku has been accused of money laundering and fraud in the United States, reports say.
For context, Atiku has visited so many nations and cities on earth since he left power in 2007. But he’s never visited the United States or a city in the United States. Why so?
The name Atiku Abubakar came up in a Siemens broadband contract scandal involving Nigerian and American officials in the mid-2000s.

Atiku accused of money laundering

According to sundry reports, from 2000 to 2008, Jennifer Douglas, a U.S. citizen and fourth wife of Atiku, helped her husband transfer over $40 million in suspicious funds into the United States.
The money was sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts. A chunk of the money was used by the Atikus to pay consultants for the setting up of the American University in The Nation reports that: “of the $40 million in suspect funds, $25 million was wire transferred by offshore corporations into more than 30 U.S. bank accounts opened by Ms. Douglas, primarily by Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., LetsGo Ltd. Inc., and Sima Holding Ltd.
"Two of the offshore corporations wire transferred about $14 million over five years to American University in Washington, D.C., to pay for consulting services related to the development of a Nigerian university founded by Mr. Abubakar.
"American University accepted the wire transfers without asking about the identity of the offshore corporations or the source of their funds, because under current law, the University had no legal obligation to inquire".

Atiku mentioned in Siemens bribery scandal

Investigators say U.S. authorities probed the Siemens broadband contract because it was awarded to iGate, an American company in which Williams Jefferson, then U.S. federal lawamker from Louisiana, retained considerable interest.
Jefferson and Atiku were best of friends at the time and it is believed in intelligence circles  that the contract went on without glitches in Nigeria because Jefferson had agreed to pay bribe money to top political figures in Nigeria, including Atiku. In a secretly recorded conversation with the FBI, Jefferson disclosed that Atiku was promised $500,000 if he influenced the broadband deal from the Nigerian end of things.
The case against Jefferson was premised on bribery, influence-peddling and contract inflation.
Jefferson was found guilty and served jail time in the United States for his part in the transaction, but Atiku has never been prosecuted in Nigeria.
There are insinuations that should Atiku visit the United States, he’ll be promptly arrested and prosecuted for his part in the transaction.

Atiku denies running away from the US

Asked in 2017 if he’s running away from the US, Atiku said he’s applied for visa to visit the US, but has been denied one each time. Is there a visa restriction on Atiku then?
“I applied, but wasn’t issued a visa. However, they did not decline me categorically either. They’ve only said my application is going through administrative process,” Atiku said.
“It is the sole prerogative of America to determine who they want in their country or not. I’m not running away from America,” he added.
Atiku who is running for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2019  has also challenged anyone with iron cast evidence of corruption against him, to step forward. The former Vice President has been assailed with more allegations of corruption than perhaps any other politician of his era.“On the issue of corruption, I have challenged anyone, anywhere, who has any evidence of corruption against me to come forward. I’m sure they would have combed everywhere trying to find anything incriminating against me, but they have not found it, or they are still searching,”Atiku said.
Atiku also says the Nigerian constitution doesn’t say he has to visit America before running for president.
“I can be president without going to America,” Atiku told the BBC in April of 2018.
There were also reports that Atiku owns luxury homes in the US, which have been seized and auctioned off by the US government.
This palatial home in the US has been linked to Atiku
He denies that one of those houses belongs to him. “All my wives own houses and that particular house is not mine. It belonged to one of my wives. She sold the house and was never auctioned as it was reported.”
In any case, the questions on the lips of many remain: are we going to see Atiku in the US any time soon? Will Atiku be arrested if he sets foot on US soil?
An official of the US Embassy in Nigeria declined comments for this story. The United States government has also refused to say if Atiku has been slapped with criminal charges in the country.
